This week's reminders and updates:

1) Halloween is coming...  and on a Monday!  Teachers are all resting up this week to prepare.  The staff theme is storybook characters.  If you are able to join us please feel free to dress up and join in.  We would ask that since we have many younger students at the school that you do not allow your child to wear fake blood, bring real or fake weapons and wear scary masks.  We appreciate your support with this.  Our haunted house (for those who dare) is from 8:30-10:00, the school parade will start at 11:15am and our movie begins at 1pm.  Gym 2 is for Grades 4-6 and they will be watching Maleficent and Gym o1 is for Grades 1-3 and they will be watching Curse of the Were Rabbit (Wallace and Grommit).  For those not watching the movie, the library will be open for puzzles and games.  Thank you to school council for organizing these movies and providing popcorn!

2) King Fu Panda 3 is on tonight (Friday) at 6:30pm in the gym.  Tickets are $5 can be bought online and at the door & includes popcorn.

3) Still looking for volunteers!  Do you love Pokemon and/or Lego?  We are looking for volunteers to run a Pokemon and Lego club a Monday or Friday on the second break.

4) Ski club is starting up again.  If you need more information please go to: https://wapscouncil.wordpress.com
If you need financial support for your child to participate, please contact Megan (megan.egerton@ocdsb.ca or 613-722-6585)

5) Lice is in every school.  It can be very stressful and difficult to get rid of.  Please talk to your children about avoiding sharing hats and scarves.  For more information please visit the Ottawa public health website.  If the cost of treating lice is prohibitive for you, please let the school know and we will do our best to support you.

6) Retake day will be on Tuesday, November 2, 2016.  If you haven't dropped off your orders yet, please try to get them in for November 2nd as another pick up will be done that day.

This week's reminders and updates:

1) Thank you to all parents that were able to come and see me, email or attend the school council meeting on Wednesday to share their thinking around locking the Lockhart gate during EDP (3:15-6:00pm).  It is clear that there is no ideal solution that will meet all of our community needs but in the end we have to go with what keeps our students safest.  Our Lockhart gate will now be closed at 3:15pm. This is a trial for 4 weeks based on the suggestions of our local police, school board staff, parents and students.  We have also been in touch with the City of Ottawa and there are no limits to the usage of Lockhart Park as an alternative community space that families who are able, can go and still enjoy time together after school.  The Lockhart gate will be opened between 2:50 - 3:00pm (barring unforeseen incidents inside the school).  Parents who pick up their children at the Lockhart gate are asked to wait directly inside the gate or just outside - whatever works best.  Please see attached for more information.

2) King Fu Panda 3 has been chosen for the October movie night on Oct 28th at 6:30pm in the gym.  Tickets are $5 can be bought online and at the door & includes popcorn.

3) We now have our assigned parking in the staff parking lot.  Please do not use this parking lot during the day or for EDP drop off.  The semi circle driveway is available to parents from 7am until 8:15am and again from 3:50pm until 6:00pm.  Please use the left side of the driveway. We will be making new signs to reflect this asap.

4) Cross Country is this Thursday for students that have been running hard with Mr Hume from grades 2-6.  Please ensure your child has returned their permission slip asap.

5) We are continuing to focus on appreciation at the school this month.  If your child rides a bus or uses a crossing guard perhaps they could be challenged to say a special thank you or make a card.

6) Terry Fox Day - We will be doing a run on tomorrow at 8:30am.  You are welcome to join us.  If you wish to make a person contribution you can do so at: http://www.terryfox.org/Donate/

7) School Council is not running a Halloween Dance this year but there will be a parade, Haunted House for the food drive (only for students grade 3 and up that want to go in), movies and several other fun activities.  We ask that  you do not send food in to be shared as there are too many opportunities for cross contamination and we have significant food allergies in many of our classes.  School Council is providing a safe popcorn for students.
