Friday 9 December 2016

Updates and Reminders:

1) Thank you for all of the support with this month's Kindness Calendar.  It is wonderful to hear about all the kind things our students are doing for others.

2) Our snow hills have turned into ice slabs.  We have closed them until we get a good load of fluffier snow.  Hopefully, we won't have to wait long!

3) If you have any extra lego we are the people to take it off of your hands.  Please feel free to drop off any unwanted Lego to Megan's office.  We have created a lego area in our library!

4) Lice is circulating through a number of classes right now.  I would ask that you speak with your kids about not sharing hats.  If the issue persists, we will work with school council to discuss different checking options like Lice Busters.  We welcome input.

5) We are still looking for larger sizes of skates or helmets we would love to have them as we prepare to use the Woodroffe Park ice rink.  Please feel free to drop these at the office.

6) Please see the attached flyer about the Ottawa Youth Orchestra.

7) If you have changed contact information please let the office know as soon as possible.  This includes email addresses as many communications go out using email.

8) We would ask that parents do not use the staff parking lot for drop off.  The Church parking lot is available during bus drop off and pick up and any other time you are welcome to use our driveway.

We hope you all enjoy time with your families this weekend!

This week's reminders and updates:

1) Thank you to all parents that were able to come and see me, email or attend the school council meeting on Wednesday to share their thinking around locking the Lockhart gate during EDP (3:15-6:00pm).  It is clear that there is no ideal solution that will meet all of our community needs but in the end we have to go with what keeps our students safest.  Our Lockhart gate will now be closed at 3:15pm. This is a trial for 4 weeks based on the suggestions of our local police, school board staff, parents and students.  We have also been in touch with the City of Ottawa and there are no limits to the usage of Lockhart Park as an alternative community space that families who are able, can go and still enjoy time together after school.  The Lockhart gate will be opened between 2:50 - 3:00pm (barring unforeseen incidents inside the school).  Parents who pick up their children at the Lockhart gate are asked to wait directly inside the gate or just outside - whatever works best.  Please see attached for more information.

2) King Fu Panda 3 has been chosen for the October movie night on Oct 28th at 6:30pm in the gym.  Tickets are $5 can be bought online and at the door & includes popcorn.

This week's reminders and updates:

1) Friday, October 7th is a PD day and there is no EDP on this day.

2) Welcome to Courtney Kennedy who is our newest ECE in the afternoons.  Welcome to Bob Clark who is now our 50% Librarian.  A sad farewell to Annie DaSilva (afternoon ECE) and Kristina Rondeau (English teacher) who have both been able to accept positions in other schools - they will be missed.

3) Please do not allow your children to ride their bikes or scooters on the yard after school.  The yard is actually being used by the school until 6:15pm each day by our EDP program and follows the same rules as are in the school day.  Thank you for your support of this.

4) It was a wonderful sea of Orange today.  Thank you for your support of this day and thanks to staff for a wonderful assembly.

5) This month we are focussing on appreciation.  I have challenged all of our students (for the entire month) to come up with a different thing they are grateful for each day.  We encourage you to join us all too and perhaps make this a breakfast or dinner time routine.

Updates and Reminders - September 19th

Thank you for taking the time to join us at the Open House and Welcome Back Picnic.

Photo Day was scheduled last year and, unfortunately, we have discovered that it has landed on a holiday for some of our families. We have changed it to October 19th.  Thank you for your patience and understanding.  Our apologies for the confusion.

Please bring back verification and permission forms as soon as possible.  It is essential we have accurate contact information for everyone.  If you want to receive emails from the school please ensure your email address is also included.

We would appreciate receiving the $7 for agendas, if you are able, by September 23rd.

A friendly reminder about drop offs:  The staff parking area is not for drop off or pick up.  Apart from us having assigned parking, it is not safe to use.  Please use the church parking lot as they have kindly allowed us this to ensure that students are dropped off safely.  On the Lockhart St. side of things, please be mindful of parking restrictions as they are also in place to ensure student safety and we also don't want our community having to pay costly parking fines.

Absence or lates - Please call 613-722-4474 or Email woodroffepsstudentabsence@ocdsb.ca

On a personal note, thank you for the kind welcomes and introductions over the past few weeks.  I am thrilled to be a part of the Woodroffe community and look forward to working with you all throughout the year.  If you have suggestions, questions or concerns please feel free to drop in, call or email me at: megan.egerton@ocdsb.ca.

* In order to communicate as best as possible, I will be primarily communicating via this blog and Twitter. To help reduce waste, most things will come to you electronically.

* Forms to complete will be sent home all this week - please check your child's backpack each day

* Students in grades 1-6 are asked to bring in $7 to cover the cost of agendas

* A calendar for September and October will be coming home tomorrow in backpacks

Yearbook Update

This message is for all Woodroffe families who pre-ordered a yearbook - on behalf of the Woodroffe School Council.

Due to the defective binding, please note that ALL yearbooks have been re-printed and will be distributed on Thursday, June 30th.  If your child will not be at school on the last day, we will keep their yearbook for them until September or arrangements can be made for pick up over the summer.

We apologize for the delay in distributing the yearbooks and realize that it has been a frustrating process.  We are confident that the new copy will be more securely bound and a wonderful keepsake for students for many years to come.

We thank you for your understanding!
