Eco School Silver Certification

I am very proud to let our Woodroffe Community know that we have received the Eco School Silver Certification for this school year! A huge congratulations to two of our teachers, Marie-Pierre Desrosiers and Anthony Marchildon-White, who spear-headed this initiative! A big thank you as well, to the entire staff and all of our Woodroffe students for working so hard to protect the environment!  Bravo tout le monde!!

Here is the feedback we received from the Eco School organization:

Wow,
Woodroffe Avenue Public School! What a fantastic kick off to your EcoSchools journey! It was a pleasure to visit your school and see firsthand the many eco-initiatives that are taking place. It is clear that you have a dedicated and diverse EcoTeam working together to make big changes at your school! It is also great to see such strong administrative support. Your monitoring practices and communication strategies around Energy Conservation are clearly having a powerful impact. Great job on your Energy Walkabout Worksheet and your Classroom Lighting Assessment. You are on track in Waste Minimization. The next step is to encourage students to actively monitor and analyze waste, which will provide insight into waste practices within the school and help  target problem items. The  Walkabout Worksheet and Waste Audit forms can be found by visiting our website (www.ontarioecoschools.org). Your School Ground Greening projects will benefit students, the community, and local biodiversity for years to come. It is unfortunate that your school lost some Ash trees due to the Emerald Ash Borer this year - we are impressed that you are already planning to replace them with more trees in the future. You have submitted some excellent Curriculum examples that clearly demonstrate environmental learning across various grade levels and diverse subject areas. We loved your grade 4 ephemeral art installation submission. Your Environmental Stewardship campaigns have provided students with the opportunity to be ambassadors to the community. Regarding the Waste Free Lunch Challenge: This excellent and effective campaign has been recognized in Waste Minimization. Congratulations on all your achievements this year! It was fantastic to meet some of your team members. Keep up the good work!
